Based on what is written in the ancestral tablet at tailors’, the founder of the sewing vocation in Hoi An was a woman named Nguyen Thi Sen.

The worshiping ritual is a tradition to Hoi An people in general and tailors in particular. Located about 3 km North of Old Hoi An, Tra Que vegetable planting village is well known in Quang Nam province and Da Nang City.

All the villagers in Tra Que are farmers, shrimp raisers and vegetable planters. They grow vegetables in their gardens and sell them to the whole province of Quang Nam province and Da Nang City.

 

Their products sell well and are highly appreciated due to the freshness, good quality and safety. Everyday all the year round, 8 tons of Tra  Que vegetables are sold and people in Quang Nam-Danang area are addicted to having them in their meals. That is why many eaters, even the easiest ones said that they feel tasteless if their meals lack in Tra Que vegetables.

 

The carpentry village of Kim Bong - Hoian handicraft - Hoian Travel Guide

The carpentry village of Kim Bong is in Cam Kim commune, just on the other side of Hoi An river.

Kim Bong village was very famous for its carpentry. Most of the architectural projects in Old Hoi An were constructed by the village natives. Their woodwork is so excellent. Their carvings on the beams, rafter finials, altars, furniture... are incredible. In short, it can be said that what they have done is always beautiful and perfect.

 

The Kim Bong carpenters now still keep their traditional occupation alive. Many of them turn to make fishing boats for fishermen all over Central Viet Nam whereas a lot is eager to repair and restore old buildings of town or make wooden statues, wood carved articles and traditional looking furniture to be sold and exported.   

 

The pottery village of Thanh Ha - Hoian handicraft - Hoian Travel Guide

Located 3 km West of Hoi An, Thanh Ha is the pottery village that play an important role in the economic development of Hoi An old town.

In the 16th, 17th century, Thanh Ha was a thriving village. It was so famous for earthenware''s that were sold in many provinces in Central Viet Nam. It was Thanh Ha villagers that made and provided bricks, roof and floor tiles for old buildings in Hoi An and the surrounding areas.

Thanh Ha pottery villagers are doing the same work in the same way their fore fathers did in the past. In their clever and skillful hands, clay turns to be pretty flower vases, tea pots, piggybanks, wine bottles, water jars, kettles, cooking pots or lovely birds, turtles, buffaloes, cats, ducks, etc.

Nowadays many old buildings in Hoi An need repairing and restoring and Thanh Ha villagers are the only trusted contractors that can provide standardized bricks, roof and floor tiles exactly like those in the prosperous time when Hoi An port town prospered.
